Those four words pretty much sum up our cabin adventures. It's paint, paint and more paint...
With the entire upstairs painted, minus the bathroom (need to tear down some old fashioned wall paper), Craig and I have made some impressive progress. What a difference a fresh coat of paint makes. Before, the walls and trim were the same color, a dingy yellowish color. Now, we have a white-based trim and taupe walls. It's simple and refreshing! The trim is a bugger because it takes three coats, but it's well worth the paint fumes and sore shoulders!
Our newest adventure we've tacked on to the cabin project is blinds. We're not installing plantation blinds, but going with a faux wood two inch blind. One blind at a time - pricey undertaking since the cabin has close to 30 windows! It's important to install the blinds to protect the future flooring - wood on the main floor and carpet upstairs (not to mention privacy). I thought the blinds would be rather simple to install - and the installation isn't all that bad. It's taking out the extra slats and popping back in the annoying cork button thingy that makes me shudder. Actually, it's just popping back in the button. After about 45 minutes of trying to pop the button thing in, I gave up and told Craig to finish. Yes, I know, I gave up and did the girl thing - passed it on to my husband. But my fingers were numb because the cabin is cold and the button wouldn't go in correctly.
I have since defaulted all future blind installation to my dear husband. All 30 of them. God bless husbands.
The floor will have to wait until we finish painting...but it's nice to know we've already got the wood floor and it's already paid off. I am personally excited about tearing up the peel and stick tile and carpet...fun fun fun!
Why is all this work worth it? Well, because on the rare occasion, we are greeted by deer, sometimes more than one. Two weeks ago, I recited my normal "I want to see a deer" as we drove through the entrance of the resort. Through the twists and turns up to our property, not a single deer. No biggie, I usually don't see one, but I love it when I do. As Craig and I pointed the truck down the steep driveway, Craig pointed out a deer at the bottom. I gushed with excitement! Low and behold, there was another one, and another one. The deer took off, five deer in all, three full grown does and two babies, across our property and away into the protection of the woods. I was thrilled beyond words and just had to go look for them again (knowing full well that they were long gone). What an incredible site! That in combination with the relaxing sounds of the river pouring over the rocks, makes all the painting, remodeling, and investments worth it.
