We're getting there

All of a sudden, things seem to be coming together. I think it's mostly because Craig is trying to keep me sane by working on the projects around the house that are important to me.

The long weekend helped tremendously, too. We even drove to Alabama and back on July 3rd to spend some time with our nephews, Craig's brother and his wife. It was really fun and I got to hold a seven-week old. I'm not certain I am a natural at holding babies, so having one of my own to care for is going to be interesting.

Jeff and Craig...one of them lives in California near the beach. Can you guess?
Craig practicing...meet Andrew - the newest Kunard!Christopher and Craig.Christopher being a ham...And one of me...check out that 8 month belly! And I think I am one of those pregnant ladies that gains weight in the face...ugh.
The checklist for this weekend included hanging drapes in the living room. Privacy is a good thing and our neighbors could see in our house all the time. We bought energy efficient drapes that are supposed to save up to 30% in energy costs, but it may be more of a gimmick than a true savings. The sun beat down through those windows from around 4 pm - 7 pm, so it got hot quick. The sheet on the love seat is really close to a swatch of fabric for a slipcover. We thought it was an exact match to the curtains, but it turns out they are not a good match. Just enough off to make it seem like we intended it to match and it didn't.
We also made some serious headway in the baby's room! For some reason, seeing the crib assembled made it all seem real to me. No matter that I am getting huge, waddle all the time, walk so much slower because my hips always hurt, and I have to be careful when I sneeze. Nope, it was seeing the crib put together that jolted me into reality that a real person will be sleeping in that crib in a couple of months.
We also bought a dresser/changing table to go with my old dresser we're going to repaint. She is going to have plenty of furniture.Home Depot gives all current, retired and former military a 10% discount during any patriotic holiday (Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veteran's Day). With a new house, we need a lot of stuff and 10% adds up quickly when you're buying lots of stuff. You may think that we would get a Home Depot discount since Craig is employed by them, but we do not. And for the record, Lowe's doesn't offer associate discounts either. At any rate, we stocked up at Home Depot and purchased fans for all the bedrooms, a cube organizer for the baby's room, lots of paint, light bulbs and a whole bunch of other little odds and ends. We saved a lot, which also means we spent a lot! Little by little though, our place is coming together. I'm in no hurry, just as long as we are settled.

Little by little, we're certainly getting there.

Jen you look and sound so happy! I know that your precious little one is going to be raised in a great home (of course I always knew that). I have never had the fortune of meeting Craig but I am sure he has a heart of gold like yours. I know that things will be amazing for you both! I have loved reading your posts, they always bring a smile to my face or heart! Have a wonderful day!
