Madeline actually turned 16 months old a few days ago, but I'm in the ball park, was in the ball park when I started this post, but now I'm late. :-)
The main thing I want to remember about her at this age is that she's so darn fun! She's mimicking things at an alarming rate and playing copy-cat nearly non-stop.
She's figured out how to scale the furniture and wants to run up and down the cushions. I was preparing dinner one evening and I kept seeing her (and admonishing her to sit on her bottom) dart back and forth and then I heard a splat. She had fallen off the couch. I waited for the wail, but she shook it off and resumed her climbing and cushion crushing. I guess it wasn't that hard of a fall, but I thought it would at least slow her down! She was startled for a minute and then quickly forgot. Sheesh. She also climbs on to the glider and I've seen her stand up on that, too. Bumps and bruises, here we come!
She's starting to pay attention to books now. Sort of. She's never been one to sit still for an entire book and I don't push it. I've let her explore books at her leisure and I read to her. She'll be interested in the stories eventually. She loves a children's Bible that my friend Se got her. She points out Jesus and baby Jesus, and all Noah's animals (and says the ones she knows, or at least attempts to say them). It's darling.
She eats apples like they're going out of style and doesn't eat broccoli nearly as much as she used to.
She still nurses like it's going out of style and excitedly signs "milk" to me all the time. I only nurse her at certain times, and offer her something else in the middle of the day when she signs to me.
Probably the most exciting thing that Madeline has accomplished is sleeping through the night. Around Thanksgiving, I stopped nursing her at night cold turkey (haha). I was completely exhausted and there were some nights that she would want to nurse more than once - and since she was 14 months, I decided it just needed to stop. Until that time, I could count on one hand the number of times she had slept through the night. We tried the crying thing and she would always revert, so I assumed she just wasn't ready. Craig became the substitute and went in to comfort her when she woke up. After about a week, she would settle down relatively quickly and just want to be held. Once this happened, he stopped going in there and I guess she just flat gave up and started sleeping! Since I wasn't going in there, she would sleep! It's glorious! Now, she did revert over Christmas when she was sick, in a new place and sleeping in a pack n play, but I can't blame her. She still whimpers/cries a few times a night, but is back to sleep in minutes. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
She doesn't call the cats "tat" anymore, rather she calls them "Ke-ey." And she's also called me "mommy" a few times, much to my chagrin. I have no idea where she picked it up from, but she more regularly calls me "mama."
She's been saying "up" for quite some time now, but she also says it when she wants down. Speaking of words, her vocabulary is getting ridiculous. She knows/tries so many words now and I can't keep up!
Her 15th and 16th teeth appeared this past week, so she has eight on the bottom and eight on the top. Let the real chewing begin!
There's so much more, but my mind is drawing a blank. So, I will leave you with some pictures. I didn't get a picture of Madeline in her Christmas dress, so I posed some post-Christmas. I think she's adorable! And she's playing with her new kitchen Craig and I gave her for Christmas in the bottom picture. It's retro-cool!
The snow and ice covered the ground here for more than a week. Madeline was sick for the first 4-5 days so I didn't take her out in it. By the time I did take her out in the snow, it was more slushy and icy than fluffy. As I suspected, she was a little alarmed by the new ground and wouldn't move. That's just typical Madeline - new things/places/people concern her a bit. I snapped some pictures and then we went inside.
And with that, I'll sign off now. I've been adding to this post for more than a week now...if I don't hit publish, it may never get published!
