Raining and pouring

How is it that things always tend to hit you at the same time?  When it rains, it pours, so to speak.

*sigh*

Our house is not that old at all, but we are going to be shelling out some money in the near future to make some necessary repairs and I only mention it here so I can remember it.

First, our master shower is leaking into the kitchen above the fridge. It's not bad yet and we've been using the spare bathroom. It's isolated to the shower and not the tub, so at least it's just one plumbing issue (I assume).

Second, our counter top will need a repair job in the near future because the Corian CRACKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH.  I was cooking chili in the crock pot last week and the wonderful smells were drifting upstairs while I worked and Madeline played. At lunch time, I went downstairs to stir the chili and feed Madeline and noticed that there was an 8-10 inch crack that started at the corner and zigzagged towards the middle of the counter top. At its thickest, it was about 1-2 mm wide and cracked all the way through. The further it zigzagged to the middle of the counter top, it thinned out and was only a hairline crack. Since that part of the counter top is resting on the cabinet, I honestly don't know if it goes all the way through. Over the next 5-6 hours or so, the crack seemed to disappear and you honestly cannot see it. I'm wondering if the crack was there to begin with and the heat from the crock pot revealed the damage. Word to the wise: place your crock pot on the stove or a trivet to help disseminate the heat. I have never done this. After all, I assumed it was designed to rest on the counter. Where else am I going to put it, on the floor?

Third, our roof has some damage to it. It's actually the decorative fake window things on the roof (like that technical term?!?), but if we don't get it fixed, it's just going to get worse and will damage the roof. Craig is going to get a contractor in our development to check it out since he knows these units very well. From the looks of it, one of the fake window thingys will need to be rebuilt. Since we noticed it, I've also seen other houses that have our exact layout/outside decoration have the same issue, so it just wasn't built well.

Don't get me wrong, I much prefer living in our town house over our apartment, but it can be stressful. Guess this is what savings is for!

Oh, and after talking to a friend yesterday about the mouse situation, I think I'm just going to buy a trap. The thought of a mouse in our house gives me the heebie jeebies! I don't want to wait for the mouse to show itself to my lazy cats. Despite their freedom, they are in the same place upstairs every morning when we wake up. Except when Starsky is meowing in the middle of the night in my bedroom.

Pictures coming soon - I have some funny ones of Madeline kind of freaking out in the snow. haha.
