I loved Madeline's long hair. And so did everyone else. I cannot even begin to tell you how many strangers commented on her hair. And no one loved it more than me.
But it was time...to get it cut. She is three after all! That and she has been asking me for a couple of weeks to get her hair cut. Plus, she twists her hair when she is going to sleep and getting a brush through it is difficult.
I thought about taking her to one of those fancy places with kid-friendly seats and TVs that turn kids into motionless zombies while the beautician cuts their hair. It makes sense, but I thought better of it for two reasons. One, I actually didn't think she would like it. She's reserved, timid and doesn't like pomp and circumstance. The fluff and overly kid-friendly people there probably would have deterred her. And two, given she did like that atmosphere, I didn't want to keep paying the premium for a haircut that should cost half the price. So, we took her to Fantastic Sam's down the road.
It was a family affair. While we were driving, she backslid and said she no longer wanted a hair cut, but we kept going. She started crying when I signed her in but Craig kept her relatively calm. They were running behind and only had one beautician, so we had to wait 30 or so minutes for Madeline's turn. It ended up being a good thing because Craig sat with her in the back of the salon and she watched three other people get their hair cut. I think, deep down, she really wanted to get her hair cut, but she is just so shy in new situations that it's hard for her to muster the courage to continue. I see it every time we go to the park and there are other kids playing. It takes her a LONG time to warm up to the idea of going down the slide. She wants to, but she refuses to, and just watches the other kids happily playing. So, as silly as it sounds, I'm so proud of Madeline for getting her hair cut!
I didn't take too many pictures because I didn't want to draw too much attention to the situation, but I had to document it!
You can see that she is not too sure about her cut...but she hung in there.
When asked what type of cut she was going to get, she kept replying, "A blue haircut!"
So this is her getting her blue haircut!
When she was done, she was definitely proud.
And I waited with abated breath as her hair dried after her bath last night. I so wanted her curls to return. They aren't super curly, but she still has waves and more curls around her face. I'm happy :-)
No more baby hair, no more whispy fine ends...just a big girl haircut!

Personally, I would not have cut her hair. I agree with you about it being beautiful and I loved, loved, loved her curls. All three of us sisters lost our curly hair after a haircut as youngsters, but the curls all came back a few years later. With you, you lost your curls gradually without a haircut, so I tried a haircut and nothing changed. Your hair finally went straight. : ( Your choice of place was good, and Maddie Mo's haircut turned out good! Great job!
