I was at the airport around noon today and had just watched Katie go through security when a "movie moment" happened. I was walking back through the airport to hourly parking when I saw this man stand up and start clapping, really slowly and deliberately. Then, a woman next to him joined in the clapping, then another and another... As I walked toward these strange people, I quickly realized why the clapping had started and why it was growing in sound.
I looked up and saw the entire second floor balcony lined with military service members wearing BDUs. All around the rotunda were people in uniform, looking over the balcony edge, taking in the impromptu standing ovation.
I have to admit that I got a lump in my throat and joined in the clapping. It's great to live here, isn't it?
