Another gas price update: I am fixated on this, I know. Sorry. But I talked to my dad today and he says he saw gas prices from $3.33 - $3.46 in Texas. That's right. The place where the hurricane hit has gas almost $1 less than here in Georgia. And my low-fuel light came on the way home from the post office today...uh oh.
Well, I'll start with a gas price update. Craig and I went to the cabin this weekend and watched as gas prices dropped from the current $4.29 price down to $3.88 while on a road trip. I had wanted to fill up while we were at the cabin, but we didn't. As we headed back, we noticed something interesting. There was no gas to be found. Anywhere. I'm gonna stay at home as much as I can until we can get some gas!
OK, now for an Ike update. I found out that my great aunt and uncle's house on Tiki Island in Galveston is OK. It was built to withstand a hurricane and the lower level of the house is completely gone, but the house is structurally sound and the upper floors are fine. My dad said the house was built to have the lower floor wash away and take the brunt of the storm, but the upper floors are supposed to remain intact. Additionally, they didn't lose any windows. Apparently the hurricane windows work!
I am waiting until my dad can download pictures from his camera and send them to me. I'll post them here to share the damage in their neighborhood. My dad said more than 100 trees fell down and at least four took down power lines. If the lines hadn't been broken, then they would have power already. As it looks now, they should have power this Thursday. Not nearly as bad as Alicia in 1983. If my parents get power this Thursday, then they will have been without power 13 days. Here's hoping...
