All dressed up!

We had trick or treaters! Last year, there were a measly two trick or treaters that came by, and Craig sent them to our house since he was outside. The average age of the kids was probably 4, so I assume that the kids were too young last year. Craig also guessed that maybe neighboring communities brought their kids over. At any rate, I was so excited to see all the cute kiddos all dressed up! And I handed out ALL my candy (granted, I was giving it out by the fistfuls :-)

At around 6:45, we dressed Madeline up to get some pictures. No, we did not take our one-year-old trick or treating, but we did go outside with the trick or treaters.

But before you see our little butterfly, I'll show you what Madeline experienced earlier in the day. Craig got a large pumpkin at the patch last weekend and planned on carving it. He scooped out all the goo and let Madeline touch and feel it. She wasn't very interested in the slimy feel and kept wiping her hands on her shirt. You would think that Craig actually got around to carving the pumpkin, but it still sits on our back patio. :-)

My mother-in-law purchased this butterfly outfit for Miss Madeline.  The tag says 18 months to 3 years, but I think it was mislabeled. The costume would not stay below her little tush at all, but she was still uber cute. She wasn't a big fan of the head piece, so we didn't force her to wear it for long.
As a bonus of being outside in the chaos, we met a nice neighbor last night! She offered to take our picture. Turns out, she works in the same building as Craig!
Fortunately, since Craig didn't get around to carving a pumpkin, I had carved mine Saturday night. Remember the fake pumpkin I bought? I carved the sucker just like a real pumpkin! A friend recommended I use a dremel tool, but we don't have one, so I used the pumpkin carving tools. I wish I could say that it was easier than a real pumpkin, but I'm not sure I'd say that. I do think it's all in the tools though, and I don't think I had the right tools. I made a few mistakes, but I'm impressed overall. As an added bonus, we'll already have a carved pumpkin for next year!

Don't open that pumpkin! There is a fuzzy surprise inside just waiting for you.
