Especially Madeline.
The trip to the festival went without a hitch, traffic was virtually non-existent and we got a primo parking spot to boot! Once in the fair grounds, however, people were e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. Since Madeline had been in her car seat for an hour and a half already, she didn't want to be in her stroller. Craig and I took turns holding her hand and walking around. She definitely had her opinion on where she wanted to go and I would usually let her go where she wanted. And what did she want to do most of the time?
Played in the dirt. Or grass. Or straw. I guess it is WAY more interesting than all the things she could have seen. And I guess we don't have enough of that stuff near us. Actually, when I take her to the park, she plays with the wood bark. She screams when I put her in the swing, but will sit on the ground and play with the wood bark for as long as I'll let her.
She ate her first fair food, but we limited it to grilled chicken. We mostly just walked around with Madeline. There aren't any attractions suitable for her age, but being outside in the lovely weather and taking in the sights was all she really needed.
Besides, there was straw on the ground, so she was good.
The trip was completely uneventful. Smooth drive to the festival - Madeline slept - and a smooth drive back home - Madeline slept. Madeline has never been a baby to sleep in the car, but she's recently started to drift off while in her car seat. It's strange (but I'll take it!). It goes take her a good 15-20 minutes to settle down and go to sleep (which we're normally at our destination by that time), but it's good to know she will fall asleep in the car now.
I'm glad we went and that we were not deterred from attempting the festival a second time.
