We have a floor!

This post is way overdue seeing as this happened two weeks ago. But I am excited to show the new wood floor! After more than a month of a plywood floor, we have an actual wood floor in one of the rooms at the cabin. Craig worked so hard at getting it installed and in the end, it looked fabulous. Here’s the progression (and note that Craig is still wearing those awful shoes from 1978).

I obviously left out a few of the progression pictures, but you get the idea. I tried my hand at whacking the glueless “tongue and groove” floor together, but my feeble attempts only secured two pieces together. It really did take some umph to get the flooring to click together and I am grateful for my strong husband.

This weekend we'll probably finish out the room with trim and quarter round and then move the furniture back in. I'm really excited to see what the room will look like with furniture!

I cannot even imagine what the cabin will look like once we (I say we very loosely since I know Craig will be doing all the installation) finish. The entire downstairs is going to have a Brazilian Cherry wood floor. The greatest thing about the floor is that we got a to-good-to-be-true deal on it. Total cost (minus quarter round and door junctions) is $1.75 a square foot – and that includes the moisture-lock padding that we had to buy to go underneath the floor. Of course we have to buy a “fudge” factor, but the reality is that we could not even carpet the cabin for that amount.

Little by little the cabin is coming together. Our to-do list is never ending, but little by little it really is coming together.
