We both like Madeline Brooke. It fits my criteria and Craig's criteria as well. Craig added a piece of criteria that I was previously unaware of...the name had to be able to be shortened into a nick name. Mady works for this name.
However, Craig didn't like the spelling of Madeline, so he wanted to change it to Madelyn. While I know this is an acceptable spelling of Madeline, I am also aware that it's not the common spelling, so if Craig wanted Madelyn, it was off the table for me since it's a weird spelling. He thought Lynn was a better nick name and if you spelled Madeline like Madelyn, then it worked better. We were back to the drawing board. sigh.
Until today.
Craig wanted a larger TV, I said ours worked so why bother buying a new one. One of his friends replaced his giant TV with a plasma. I want to stress that there is a reason this guy was selling his old TV, and while it is significantly cheaper than it was four years ago, there is a reason this technology has been replaced. Craig asked me about the TV a couple of weeks ago and I told him I was really, really not interested. He reluctantly agreed that we didn't need it and I thought the TV was forgotten about. Or maybe it's just that I forgot about it. Craig, however, did not.
He began to talk about this TV again recently and I reiterated that I didn't want the TV, but that it was his decision. He did just get promoted and this is a great promotion gift to himself. He doesn't buy things or gadgets often (never really), so I caved and said I would look at the TV. Today, we looked at the TV and it convinced me that I really didn't want it. It convinced Craig that he really did want it. As we were teasing back and forth, I threw out, "if we spell Madeline with an "I", then we can get the TV." Before I barely got the statement out, Craig agreed. No rebuttal, no complaints, no nothing. Thus, the name of our child is less important to him than this TV. I tease with that last statement because the actual name has not changed, only the spelling, but he was extremely quick to give in when getting something he wanted. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
So, this is what he traded in lieu of spelling the name he wanted:

So there you have it, we've named our baby Madeline Brooke, two days before my due date. All for the price of a used TV I've nick named Mr. Crappy.

Behind every name there's a story...My great grandmother was Nellie Bly Voisey, not after the famous turn of the century reporter, but after a RACEHORSE named for the reporter.
At least you have an interesting story for her!
It is a great name. I would love to call her Brooke, but I know you have opted to call her Madeline. I know three people with this spelling and each one pronounces it differently. Yall did good!
Congrats to Craig on his new TV.
haha, we sold our massive own mr. crappy last fall :) God's blessings over a great labor and delivery! :)

Loving the name.. Hope all is well and many prayers of peace for the coming days.. :)
Nice. :) Great name!!!!
And just in case you don't want little Mady calling it Mr. Crappy, I'd suggest you nickname it Mr. Yucky. Or Mr. Monstrosity. Or Mr. Daddy's Pride and Joy. I kid, but...hehe....I've already been burned by that word from my 3 year old..... ;)
that is an ugly TV. and a beautiful name. But I want to pronounce her nickname like shady. shady mady. lol. Come soon, Mady B!
