A review

Baby products confuse me, frustrate me and make me spend my money. Boo.

One of the things I quickly realized was that most US-made baby products weren't all that great. I'm sorry, but it's true.

Our car seat is from the UK.
Our stroller is from The Netherlands.
And our nasal aspirator is from Sweden.

Wait, back up a minute...nasal aspirator? Why didn't we just swipe a couple extra from the hospital? Because even they don't suck.

Enter the Nosefrida Snot Sucker.

The thing is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The marketing of the aspirator is another story.
Yeah, made me think, "gross!" too when I first saw this picture.

Since Madeline was a c-section baby, she was full of gunk that the doctors tried to get out, but it didn't all come out. In fact, we were told by the nurses that she would probably cough and gag herself on the mucous for the first few days of her life. Seriously. We were showed how to suck the gunk out with a bulb aspirator. Her congestion lasted for months and I about lost it at the two week mark. I took her to the pediatrician knowing that she just could not breathe and was sent home with the bill that said, "she is fine." Aspirate away! Lovely. For obvious reasons, Madeline DID NOT like a bulb aspirator shoved inside her already small nasal passages and would communicate her displeasure with me every time I pointed the aspirator at her. In addition, the thing REALLY started to smell. I mean, really, really smell.

I found out about the Nosefrida Snot Sucker through Nurtured Family and didn't think twice about ordering one. Not only can I clean it out, but it doesn't irritate her nose and it SUCKS. Literally. Madeline still protests when I use it, but I can't blame her. That has to feel weird to have your snot sucked out.

For the record, you're never gonna swallow snot. It really is impossible and there's a filter anyway.

So there you have it, my review of this sucky (haha) nasal aspirator, or as they call themselves, the snot suckers. I'm not being paid or anything, I just want to share this lovely device with other mamas. Don't be scared by the above picture, just ooh and ahh over this cute one.
Yeah, that's much better.

We were told the same thing about Henry coughing and gagging on mucous for a few days. Our second night we had Extra Happy Nurse Lady who just wouldn't take no for an answer when she repeatedly offered to take him to the nursery. She finally got her way when he skipped feeding #2-hospital policy!!

When she brought him back she told us he'd choked on a little mucous so we needed to keep a watch on him-oh, and were we sure we didn't want him in the nursery??

Anyway. He never had another choking incident, but he did have breathing issues similar to Madeline's.
