I don't think I have ever been as excited for a birthday as I was for Madeline's first birthday. This is due in part to the fact that my first child was turning one, but also because lots of my Texas family was going to be celebrating with us! I couldn't fall asleep Thursday night because I was anticipating my sister, her husband and my nephew Ethan flying in Friday. I was like a kid trying to fall asleep the night before Christmas I was so excited. In addition to my sister's family flying in, my parents also flew in Friday! Ironically, there were more Taylor folks in Georgia last weekend than there was in Texas :-)

Oh, hi little boy!
Since this post is about Madeline's birthday, I'll stick to that day and save additional pictures from the weekend for another post.
I had envisioned using caterpillars as the "theme" for the party. I has seen a
Wilton cake that inspired me and off it went. The cake ended up NOTHING like I had planned due to the icing not cooperating and me not wanting to spend an entire day putting it together while so much family was in town, but it worked. The "lady bug" in the front is more of an inside joke than anything else and we left it :-) The mouth was my dad's touch. haha. The "MADELINE" cookies did end up on the cake, but I don't think we took a picture of it like that. Whoops. The cookies were really cute!

You can't see the cello bags clearly here, but I used pom poms and googly eyes to make caterpillars on the cookie favor bags. My sister turned the balloons into a caterpillar for me and I think it was super cute.

I made Madeline's tutu (and didn't even bother straightening it out after a while :-) and her onesie that said "I am 1!" I seriously looked everywhere for a cute outfit and all were either ridiculously expensive or just plain ridiculous. So I did it myself. The tutu didn't last too long seeing as she kept tripping over it, but here's a picture of her giant tutu bum.

And opening a few gifts...

When it came time for cake, she went to town. She barely hesitated before diving right on in. And she kept her hat on the entire time!

Her diaper contents the next day proved to me she ate too much. pfffft.

I can't believe she's one.....
