So my brother became the inspiration behind his own birthday card...I have to admit I looked in a magazine to get ideas. This is what originally got me thinking...

I, however, only used the fact that it was a pirate card and that it contained a cheesy pirate joke. If you can't read the text in the picture, it says, "What's a pirate's favorite letter of the alphabet?" (inside) "
RRRRR, Happy Birthday Matey!" Note that my joke is different (and actually somewhat funny) and that I didn't use some stock pirate paper from Hobby Lobby to make the card (uh, that's the ONLY thing on this card, not much creativity if you ask me). No, I made it slightly different. In fact, it looks nothing like the original.
The reason this is my favorite card (that I have made to date) is because
1) it was made for my brother (
awwwww!)
2) I got to use my charcoal (always fun)
3) the messier the better (tearing, etc.)
4) just look!

The paper behind the text is a treasure map graphic I downloaded from the
Internet. I placed a transparency filter on it and added the text over the image. There are even the words, "pirate booty" somewhere in the background. ha ha! If you click on the pic, it'll get bigger :-)
And while I am at it, I'll post the anniversary card I made for Craig. The majority of it is plagiarized, but I did add my personal touch. I also love using my old-fashioned label maker.

Wow. I just love your cards and have LOVED getting them every Christmas! David thought the pirate card was awesome, so I know it's good. Sometimes the guys don't appreciate a handmade card. :-)
My brother actually ASKED for me to make him a card...I thought that was really nice of him :-)
